Azapaza translates to “a chord of hope” from Sanskrit. A name picked by AzapazA founder Randall Wood, now Dr. Wood and his sister Lisa, who had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer back in 1999. As they embarked on a business adventure during a difficult time, AzapazA indeed became “a chord of hope” before she passed.
Dr. Wood launched a vending operation curated from the lavish colors and impressive textiles of India where he had spent several months on a yoga retreat in 1995. He invested in what would become Azapaza’s first order which included; traditional handloomed organic cotton “baba” bags, some decorative cards and some small stone carvings. A humble beginning was made selling his wares at the famous drum circle market in Montreal where vendors could call ahead and reserve a spot for free.
After relocating to Sioux City, IA Randall met lifelong friend and fellow musician Shawn Blomberg the night of his sisters passing in 2003 and the two were destined for an AzapazA adventure that has now lasted over 20 years.
AzapazA has taken many shapes over the years and has remained steadfast in its roots of festival vending. Traveling and sharing a vibe of peace and providing hope in dark times to all who enter its space.
AzapazA is more than a clothing company or Brand. It is a symbol for hope and love.
Much of the proceeds earned over the years have helped fund various community projects including the release of several albums of original music by AzapazA soul family members and has provided service/donations for the homeless and mentally ill. AzapazA is ran by recovering addicts and provides a safe space for recovering addicts and alcoholics at festivals.
AzapazA continues to travel the festival circuit in the Midwest sprinkling its magic with an ever evolving fashion line, djembe drums, didgeridoos, incense, tapestries, handmade jewelry and other custom creations.
